Hosapete (Vijayapura), Jan 17: Congress opposition leader in the assembly Siddaramaiah and KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar, who touched Hosapete in Vijayapura district as part of the State Congress party’s Prajadhwani Yatra, lambasted the BJP government headed by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and challenged him or any ministers or State BJP chief for a public debate on the three-year rule of BJP in Karnataka.
Addressing a massive public meeting Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, who were accompanied by AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala and other State Congress leaders, attacked the ruling BJP for its corruption and failures, the unprecedented price rise and corruption in all government works and vowed to throw out the BJP with the support of the people.
Shivakumar said the BJP did not get the people’s mandate in the 2018 assembly polls and came to power through the backdoor by engineering defections from Congress and JD(S) under its infamous "Operation Kamala" and has become the most corrupt government in the State. "Out of the 600 promises given to the people in the 2018 elections, the BJP has not implemented 550 and has no justification for remaining in office," the Congress leaders said.
The KPCC Chief asked the BJP leaders to explain what happened to the promise of doubling the income of farmers, creating 2 crore jobs every year and depositing Rs 15 lakh in each individual’s bank accounts.
He charged the Bommai government as the "B Report Government" and mentioned that the all the ministers and BJP leaders charged with corruption and other serious offences have been given "B Reports" and declared innocent shamelessly.
The former Congress chief minister and KPCC Chief said the Bommai government and the ruling BJP leaders have become totally confused and clueless, especially after the two major guarantees given by the Congress party for giving 200 units of free power for all domestic consumers and Rs 2,000 each per month to all housewives suffering due to price rise of all essential commodities.
"Ours is a government that delivers on its promises and we will fulfill our promises," they said and pointed out that out of the 165 promises given by Congress party in the 2013 elections, as many as 158 were implemented during 2013 and 2018 while BJP could not even fulfill 10% of its 600 promises made to people in the 2018 polls.
Siddaramaiah said attacked the BJP government for shutting down the Indira Canteens and reducing the free rice distribution to the poor to 4 kgs and said his government was distributing 7 kgs per BPL card holders irrespective of their caste and religion. The Congress party will restart all the Indira Canteens and increase the free rice distribution to 10 kgs to all BPL cardholders, he said.
The Congress leaders said the Bommai government and BJP leaders have been frightened of losing election and after the Congress party’s first two guarantees of 200 units of free power to each household and Rs 2,000 cash per month to each housewife on account of the price rise and inflation, the government now claims to come out with separate budget for women and have released full page advertisements in newspapers for empowerment of women. If they were so concerned about price rise and the problems of women, what prevented BJP to do something during the last three years, they asked.
Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah lashed out at minister Anand Singh for his failures and said the people will not forgive him.
