Mangaluru, Jan 18: MLA U T Khader has opposed the state government’s proposal on reducing the legal age for consumption of alcohol from 21 years to 18 years.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, January 18, U T Khader said, "The BJP government’s step to reduce the legal age to consume alcohol from 21 years to 18 years will destroy the young generation. BJP, which speaks about their culture, values of the party, strengthening the country and so on, are indulging in pushing the young generation to consume alcohol at the age of 18. Everyone is trying to create awareness among youths to desist from alcohol and substance abuse but the government is provoking them to consume liquor at a young age. The parents will not spare the government for its proposal."
He also said, "The government will never realize the consequences of this proposal. It is only thinking about how to generate income. The BJP government does not know anything about governance. We demand that the proposal be withdrawn immediately or else the people will get down to the streets to oppose the state government’s move."
