Koppala, Jan 19: In a peculiar incident, roosters involved in gambling activities have been put behind bars by the Karatagi town police in Koppala district.
The police got wind of information that there was a cockfight contest in progress on the outskirts of Basavanna camp. ASI Basavaraj and his team raided the location where the cockfight contest was on. On seeing the police gatecrash the contest, all the players involved and including owners of the animals fled the scene. But, they left the domestic fowls behind.
The police were supposed to chase the gamblers and apprehend them. Instead they took three roosters and nine bikes into their possession. The bikes were seen parked outside the police station while the cocks were put behind bars in the police station.
Three roosters are in the police station and it has become the responsibility of the cops to look after them since Monday. But, the police move to arrest the fowls has piqued the animal lovers as they felt that the owners of the animals should have been arrested and not the animals.
The police are now peculiarly placed as they have to produce these animals before the court to secure their release.
