Bengaluru, Jan 22: State Drugs Control department has instructed district drug controllers to create awareness among minors about condoms and birth control pills. Action will be taken to display posters saying ‘No sale of condoms and birth control pills to minors, these medicines should not be used.’
State children’s rights commission had requested drug controller department to take action as condoms and birth control pills were found in the bags of many school going children. Accordingly, the drug controller department has taken the initiative.
In the circular that was sent to all district drug controllers it has been stated that action should be taken against any pharmacy if they were found selling condoms and birth control pills to children.
Giving clarification on the circular, state drug controller Bhagoji T Khanapoore said, “We have not prohibited the sale of condoms and birth control pills. Action has been initiated to prevent minors from accessing them. Medical shop personnel have been advised to create awareness among minors who approach their shops asking for condoms and birth control pills.”
Meanwhile, the French government has decided to distribute free condom to youth between 18 to 25 years of age to prevent unwanted pregnancies and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
