Kundapur: Baindoor Resident Looted in Mumbai Train of Rs 1 Lac, Gold

Kundapur, Jun 4: An incident wherein a passenger travelling from Mumbai to Kundapur was looted of cash amounting to a lac and gold ornaments after being offered sedative-laced biscuits has occurred near Madgaon. The person is identified as Santosh Shetty, a resident of Kaltodu here. He was travelling by train to attend a relative's wedding with Rs 1 lac and two gold rings.
The theft occured near Madgaon, Goa. It is learnt that a family that was travelling along with Santosh befriended him near Ratnagiri and one among them informed him that he was on the way to his shop at Madgaon and that the other youth was his son.
The person also asked for water from Santosh while having biscuits and offered Santosh some biscuits. Soon after consuming the biscuit Santosh fell asleep and the duo made a hasty retreat after stealing the money and gold ornaments.
However, in a twist in the tale, a fellow traveller, a youth said to be from Kundapur captured the theft with his mobile camera. He also spoke to Santosh's brother and informed that Santosh was in a problem. He further helped Santosh, who was partialy conscious, reach his home by taking him in an autorickshaw on reaching Baindoor railway station. Also, due to countering of the youth, the duo left behind a chain, bracelet, wallet and mobile phone.
On gaining consciousness, Santosh identified the duo captured in his mobile phone as the thieves, following which a case has been registered at the Baindoor police station.
In the background of many such incidents, there have been suggestions that it would be ideal if CCTVs were installed in trains as part of security measure against theft and other crimes.
