Mangaluru, Jan 27: The Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has ordered an online company to pay compensation with interest to the customer who was conned on purchase of a mobile phone worth Rs 55000.
The Dakshina Kannada commission ordered the company to pay the customer the money he spent on the purchase and Rs 15000 as additional cost he incurred.
Harsha Mente, a software engineer residing near MRPL Suratkal had ordered a mobile phone worth Rs 55000 online during corona lockdown. However, he received only the charger and earphone in the parcel that was sent to him on June 17, 2020. When he contacted the customer service department of the online company, they assured investigation within five days. However, even after six months, in spite of repeated calls, the company did not resolve the issue.
In October 2022, Harsha filed a complaint to the Dakshna Kannada district commission of Customer Dispute Redressal Forum. The commission took up the complaint for inquiry on January 11 and prounounced its verdict.
Along with Rs 55,000, an annual interest at the rate of eight percent from October 12, 2022 plus Rs 15,000 additional expenses need to be paid by the online company to Harsha Mente.
