Yadgir/Kalaburgi, Jan 28: In addition to the two guaranteed promises of 200 units of free power to all domestic consumers and Rs 2,000 each per month to all housewives, the Congress party has promised to distribute 10 kg of rice to all BPL card holders.
Addressing the Prajadhwani Yatra meetings in Kalaburgi and Yadgir districts, KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar and Congress opposition leader in the assembly Siddaramaiah on Saturday the two major guarantees would have all families to save Rs 2 lakh over the next five years under Congress rule.
The free power supply up to 200 units to all domestic consumers would help the families to save Rs 1,500 per month or Rs 18,000 annually. The Rs 2,000 per month payment to each housewife would provide Rs 24,000 annually. These two promises alone would help in saving Rs 2 lakh each over the next five years to each family, the Congress leaders said.
Offering to distribute 10 kgs of rice to all BPL card holders, they declared that the Congress party wants all poor families not to go hungry.
The Congress leaders said the party is committed to the comprehensive development of Hyderabad Karnataka or the Kalyana Karnataka region along with Kittur Karnataka. “We want the entire State to develop and the farmers lives must be enriched,’’ they said urging partymen to work unitedly for the success of the Congress party.
Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah said the BJP government has completely failed to keep its promises not only in the State but at the Centre as well while the Congress party was responsible for granting special status for the development of northern Karnataka region by amending the constitution. The only contribution of the BJP in the State during the last 3 and half years is corruption in all departments of governance, they said.
“The ruling BJP is interested in polarizing castes and communities on the basis of religion for the sake of votes. BJP believes that only Hindus must prosper while we want communiti3s including Hindus, Muslims and Christians, Sikhs and Dalits as well as Vokkaligas, Lingayats, OBCs and Kurubas to prosper and enjoy the fruits of development. That is the difference between Congress and BJP,’’ they said.
