Beltangady, Jan 31: A student of a private college of the taluk killed himself as a person, whom the student got acquainted with on Instagram, threatened to make his private video viral on social media.

The deceased is identified as Harshith (19), a resident of Ashoknagar, Dharmasthala village and student of second BCom of a private college.

Harshith had come in contact with a stranger through his Instagram account 15 days ago. They used to chat with each other. After some days, the stranger called Harshith and said that he has the personal video of Harshith and he will make it viral and demanded for Rs 11,000.

Harshith asked the person to give him time till January 23 to accumulate the amount. However, he could not gather the funds till the afternoon of January 24. Out of fear of his video going viral, Harshith consumed poison. He was admitted to private hospital in Ujire and later shifted to Mangaluru for higher treatment. However, he succumbed on January 29 evening.

Harshith had given the information to police while he was in hospital. But it is not known, which stranger threatened him. A case in this connection is filed in Dharmasthala police station.

Very sad .He should have filed case by the police soon after the threat came .Not fearing to strangers call or threat .I am sure he was involved in a chat like telefon sex ,(many times boys self giving as girls and chat and later when their chat person gained some intimacy ,becomes private ,starts the terror.)As this boy was involved in asked time.He couldnt get the money ,so out of shame suicided.Poor Fellow .dont feel ashamed in such crimes. They want only money and money always.without informing them file case immediately by Police and tell the name .Heartfelt sympathy to parents.May his soul rest in peace.Such chats and threats are increasing now.Hefty amount is being asked.
