Mangaluru, Jan 31: The valedictory ceremony of National Road Safety week 2023 organised by Mangaluru City traffic police was held at Kadri Park on Tuesday, January 31.
Speaking on the occasion, police commissioner N Shashikumar said, "Traffic awareness is not only for a week. It should be a routine throughout our daily life. Many accidents take place due to commuters' irresponsibility. Many parents have only one child and they send them to study in other states or countries. No parents want to see their young children die in accidents. The important aspect is you have to adopt to the mindset of driving safely. Traffic awareness should be widely spread on social media so that it reaches the youth.”
Shobha B G, senior civil Judge and member secretary, District Legal Service Authority said, “Children should follow the rules and also give awareness to their friends and family. In accidents, people lose their lives and also their dreams. Mainly accidents occur by not following the traffic rules. Parents should make their children aware of the traffic rules and regulations.”
Walter Nandalike, managing director, Daijiworld Media Network Private Limited said, “As we all are aware that Aravind Bolar had met with an accident yesterday. He is safe now because he was wearing the helmet. This tells us how important it is to follow the traffic rules. I have seen many parents feel proud when their 17-year-old children drive or ride. But when they meet with an accident, how will they feel? Police officers work day and night for our safety. If we follow the traffic rules we can avoid accidents."
A manual on Traffic Rules was released by police commissioner N Shashikumar.
Essay and drawing competitions on traffic awareness were conducted for students and prizes were distributed to the winners.
Mangaluru South traffic police Sukumaran and Barke station ASI Lokeshwara were felicitated for their service.
CAR DCP P Umesh, Traffic and Crime DCP B P Dinesh Kumar, Law and Order DCP Anshu Kumar and Traffic ACP Geetha Kulkarni and others were also present.
