Beltangady, Feb 1: A one-year-old toddler died and three others were injured on Monday, January 30, after an auto rickshaw hit a bridge wall at Banamthadi of Maladi village.
The 1.2-year-old male toddler born to couple Santhosh and Geetha of Nitte in Karkala taluk died in the accident while three others travelling in the auto escaped unhurt with minor injuries.
Geetha had visited her mother's home in Padangady and was returning from her sister's home in Shamboor with her mother Rathna when the accident occurred.
The auto hit a bridge and the toddler Atharva was thrown onto the road due to the accident. Attarva was seriously injured and was rushed to Punjalkatte government hospital for treatment. He was then taken to a hospital in Mangaluru where he failed to respond to treatment and died.
Geetha and her mother Rathna along with auto driver Dayananda escaped unhurt with minor injuries.
Punjalkatte police have registered a complaint against Dayananda who was driving the auto as the toddler had died due to his negligence and carelessness.
