Bengaluru, Feb 7: The opposition political parties in Karnataka accuse the ruling BJP government every now and then that the law and order situation of the state is completely in shambles. According to a latest report in five years, from November 2018 till November 2022, 6000 murders have taken place in the state. Out of this 3.3% are due to unrequited love issues.
Recently, a jilted lover of a prestigious college in Yelahanka had killed a girl student. A student of Presidency College Layasmita was stabbed to death by her relative Pavan Kalyan, who also tried to kill himself.
According to police statistics, 6551 murders have been committed in the state between November 2018 and November 2022. Out of this 215 cases pertain to love failures, taking the percentage to 3.3.
Usually rejection of love proposals are the reason for such murders. Police also said that suspicion of cheating in marriage and jealousy also lead to such crime. Psychologists say that a dominant character is the reason behind such heinous crimes.
Dr Suresh Bada Math, HoD of Forensic Psychiatry in NIMHANS says, “Men kill women in matters of love because they want to dominate the weaker sex. Gender, financial difficulties, sickly jealousy, threat of separation, family disputes and friction lead to this kind of crime.”
Psychiatrist Mahesh Gowda of Spandana Health Care says, “The main instigating factors behind love failure murders is an attacking mindset and anxiety. Some people cannot tolerate negligence or refusal of proposal in matters of love and marriage. So these kind of murders take place.”
