Karnataka Govt Fooled 6 Crore People over Iron Ore Export Ban: Hegde

Karnataka Govt Fooled 6 Crore People over Iron Ore Export Ban: Hegde

Bangalore, Jun 8 (PTI):
Disputing the BJP government's claims, Lokayukta Santosh Hegde today insisted that illegal mining and illegal export of iron ore were still going on in Karnataka.

"Illegal mining and illegal exports are still on. Earlier it was going through West Coast and now it is being carried through East Coast," Hegde said at a function here.

Asked to comment on the claims by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa that he has banned exports and checked illegal mining, Hegde retorted, "Illegal mining and illegal exports are still going on. Six crore people have been fooled."

He would submit the final report on illegal mining this month end, Hegde said at a function where he released a documentary on bears of Bellary sanctuary affected by mining operations.

"Essentially, earlier exports were done from Mangalore port, Karwar, Bilikere and Goa. There are some restrictions now from these areas. But iron ore is going now through Hagari border, via Andhra Pradesh, Vizag, Kakinada and Krishnapatnam," he said.

Hegde said it was he who had suggested ban on iron ore export in his report submitted to the state government in December 2008 as the royalty earned from it was meagre compared to the profits made by mining owners. While mines owners paid Rs 27 per ton of 64 FE grade and Rs 17 for lower grade iron ore, they sold it for Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 per ton, he said.

Please dont blame poor honest, sincere Yeddy, he said he will stop iron ore exports from Karnataka ports, but never told he will stop through other states. He even stoped exports from Hungarcutta port (where there is no port at all, only a small barge for fisheries) If you want he will stop exports from Bangalore Port & Mysore Port too.

Mr. Hegde there is no use of your investigating and bringing the culprits to the open you are just wasting your time, better take some rest and look after your health. Even if you catch them redhand for illegal mining they will come up with some excuse. A day will come when we will have to import iron ore from abroad paying a very high price who cares by that time yeddy, reddy all will be dead and gone the next generation will suffer.Untill and unlees there is a total ban on the export's

If we live in foolish patriotism divided by religion, region & parties, we are doomed by such fate!

Why should you blame our politicians only. Is our constitution lacks basic authority? Where are the law & justice? What are our police & bureaucrats do. It is the entire culture & 1.2 billion people with the same mentality.

I feel sometimes our Lokayuta is a paper tiger, producing reports and sending to State/Central Levels which will be again going thru red tapeism and the outcome none. Instead why don't we over throw the Yeddy Governance & implement Presidential rule as reported by the Governor and then trap the rats & cats of this present State Government. Lets see the fun then ????? It is true the State Government is making a fool of the people as well themselves.
EVERY DOG AS A DAY.......... lets wait & watch. I hope atleast now when the term of this lutara government expires people make a wise decision and choose the appropriate Young Leaders who are educated lot and not blind folded religious senti's.

Pretty soon, karnataka will become like Ethiopia with drought like conditions (inspite of monsoon), if mining is not stopped everywhere. Given a chance, the mining lobby will not hesitate to mine western ghats even.

Also, why do you think the elephant incident in mysore happened? It is the conflict between animal and man for real estate. When we go and acquire / encroach their land, they have no option and will come near where humans live and problems develop.

This is the fault of central government.

    One serious political dispute of
"iron ore mining " can be avoided
in the next administration if we
keep quite and be patient. By that time, there won't
be any mine or iron ore left to
    export from Karnataka.

All political parties are corrupt, but today i feel Congress is the best, i had a different opinion till Ramdevs incident, BJP has no good leaders, but congress has they are educated and well off. Why no action on Karnataka corruption yet, are we go out of the track from the main stream and lost? People from Karnataka wake up, and Mangaloreans are the most intelligent to hold this degree Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank, Corporation Bank, Vijaya Bank, MIT, KMC and what not.

We have high class education and medical facilities still we are ruled by a party which is winning on religion sentiments and supported by highly educated colour blind people? This will lead for a full exhaust situation like what Ramdev and Anna are in. Anna should blame Ramdev for spoiling the party. On a whole its a total failure we innocent people supported Anna are now fools. God Bless India
