Mangaluru, Feb 8: Chief Minister of Goa Dr Pramod Sawant unveiled brass statue of Late Basti Vaman Shenoy, portrait of former CM of Goa Late Dr Manohar Parrikar and inaugurated the centre for excellence for empowerment of Konkani people and exhibition hall here at World Konkani Centre in Shakthinagar on Wednesday, February 8.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pramod Sawant said, "This event is an attempt to bring Konkani community together and should continue to do the same. Konkani language should reach across the globe and we must strive for it. Today we have witnessed contribution to World Konkani Centre in the form of exhibition hall, Centre for Excellence.
He also said, "I urge that works by Konkani community be it literature, art need to be recognised. I urge people here to take initiative to conduct Vishwa Konkani Sammelan in Goa and I promise full fledged support for the same. After Konkani was included in eight schedule, the popularity of the language has increased."
Chairman, Konkani Bhas ani Sanskrithi Prathistan, Dr P Dayanand Pai said, "Nothing happens without a dream, Basti Vaman Shenoy had a dream for the World Konkani Centre. Konkani language brings community together, We need to remember that Vishwa Konkani Sammelan was a great success. Our community have achieved in every sector and become an inspiration for all.
Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, entrepreneur Ullas Kamath, entrepreneur and managing director, Ivory Grand Real Estate Micheal D'Souza and others were present.
Meanwhile, president of World Konkani Centre and donor of Central Hall Nandagopal Shenoy and D Ramesh Naik Maira, the donor of exhibition hall were felicitated.
President of World Konkani Centre Nandagopal Shenoy welcomed the gathering, Secretary, Vishwa Konkani Scholarship Program, Pradeep G Pai proposed a vote of thanks.
Earlier in the day, a two-day Vishwa Konkani Samaroh was inaugurated at World Konkani Centre.
