Mangaluru Feb 10: ADGP law and order Alok Kumar was in the district on Thursday February 9 regarding union home minister Amit Shah’s visit bandobast.
He addressed the media after attending public grievances at the SP’s office. He said, “During the public grievances meet, complaints were received pertaining to traffic and also an outpost at Farangipete was requested to be set up. We also received requests to strengthen staff. Issues were raised on delay on receiving complaint at police stations. Conducting SC/ST meeting on regular basis was also urged.
“The main objective behind public grievances meet was to receive genuine grievances of the public not attended by the police. All such issues will be taken care of.
“The concerned district police officials need to hold such public grievance meet on a regular basis so that more public issues will be raised and resolved,” he said.
When queried about allegations of corruption charges in Mangaluru city police commissionerate, flaws in doctor, medico drug case handling, Alok Kumar said, “Any complaint should be genuine and specific on the allegations made. Based on that we can take action. Filing an FIR is very important to set the law in motion. We will look into every aspect of the investigation and the filing of charge sheet as well.”
On Lokayukta complaint filed by an activist on corruption charges, Alok Kumar said, “Lokayukta is looking into the case. Based upon Lokayukta direction, we will act on it.”
Regarding the preventive measures taken on communal murders in Mangaluru during elections he said, “During my last visit to Mangaluru, I had instructed to form a mohalla and youth committee which has not been implemented effectively. There is a need to conduct committee meeting which involves people in the age group 18-40. We have 5-6 sensitive police stations in the district and Mangaluru police commissionerate and such meetings in those areas need to be held. The police simply cannot raise their hands and surrender. I cannot ensure its result, but there might be some improvement and keep things under control. If it is done sincerely, then there will be result. Even patrolling by senior officers must be taken up.”
IGP western range Dr Chandragupta and district SP Dr Vikram Amathe were present.
