Mangalore, Jun 9: Eighteen young men (5 for Mangalore diocese, 8 for Carmelites 2 for Kannur diocese, 1 for Gumbla diocese, 1 for Hyderabad diocese and 1 for Vijayawada diocese) were ordained deacons at St Joseph’s Seminary here on Thursday June 9.

Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore, presided over the Eucharistic celebration and conferred the order on the acolytes. Fr Joseph Martis, the rector presented the candidates to the bishop to be conferred as deacons.

In his homily, the bishop urged the ordinandi to serve the community of God selflessly and generously. "Service of God and the community," the bishop said, "requires wholehearted commitment." He reminded the deacons to be worthy servants of God especially by being guides in pastoral life and models in spiritual life. He also invited them to God and His Kingdom to the priority of their mission and vocation.

The Holy Eucharist was followed by the felicitation of the newly ordained deacons. Priests, religious, seminarians, parents, friends, and relatives of the deacons witnessed the solemn diaconate liturgy. The beauty of the Eucharistic celebration was enhanced by the angelic singing and prayerful liturgy. The invitees experienced the presence of the divine in the celebration.

These young men were called by God and they were ordained deacons at St Joseph’s Seminary.
I am always touched to learn that so many energetic young men dedicate their life to Him.

Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore is right when he urged in his homily the ordinandi to serve the community of God selflessly and generously.

18 young men studied several years philosophy and theology, they went to church, prayed, worshipped, meditated, attended retreats and read the Bible.

They will work in various fields and making experiences for their priestly life.

India has been been changing dramatically during the last years.
Globalisation reaches out to every corner of India.
And more and more human beings are looking desperately for a meaning of life in a permanent changing world.
The Catholic church with a two thousand year old history gives joy, hope and a meaning of life nowadays million of people.
8 years ago I fell ill and suffered from cancer, I had to undergo two difficult operations, during my stay at hospital I met a Catholic priest, he looked after me, we had many talks, prayed together, I went to church at the hospital chapel, read the Bible and found a meaning of life. My belief in Jesus gives me joy and hope and I got cured from cancer.
I wish the young deacons all the best and see the need of the poor.

    Best regards
