Bantwal: Passenger of Matsyagandha Train Goes Missing

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Jun 11: In separate complaints filed with Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, inspector general of police, and the railway police in Mangalore on Thursday June 9, Anita, a resident of Nagri in Sajipamooda village in the taluk, has requested the police to trace her husband, who reportedly went missing from near Ratnagiri while travelling by Matsyagandha Express coming to Mangalore from Mumbai. Albert D’Souza (43), her husband, suddenly disappeared while travelling in the train to Mangalore on June 7.

Albert, an electrical contract worker by profession, had escorted his sister, Lilly, to Mumbai on June 5. He was returning home by train, when he went missing under mysterious circumstances. Anita says that Albert, who began his return journey from Mumbai at around 3 pm by general compartment, had talked to her over phone. About an hour after this conversation, he talked to her again, but his speech was incoherent, as if his thought process had gone awry.

Bewildered by this development, Anita spoke to the family members of Albert’s sister at Mumbai. At around 8.30 pm the same day, a stranger called Anita and spoke in Tulu, questioning her about Albert, and informed that Albert was behaving like a mentally deranged person. Thereafter, efforts to contact this phone number went in vain.

Albert’s relatives, who made efforts to locate Albert by visiting Ratnagiri had disappointment in store. His luggage, comprising of clothes of daily wear, remain untraceable. It is learnt that other than about Rs 1,500 in cash, he did not have any valuables with him. When the train arrived in Mangalore, his family members searched the general compartment, but could not find Albert or his belongings.

The family members of Albert said that Albert was healthy, had no history of any mental disorders, and that he had visited Mumbai several times in the past. Albert speaks Kannada, Konkani and Tulu, and he is lean and fit, they said.

Most unworthy things have been occuring in the Railways in border of Maharastra. Train pass through States of Maharastra-Goa-Karnataka, & it is easier of culprits to escape. Gamblers & Miscidents offer creep in, & engage with co-passengers & sometimes this is the result. Railways since comes under the perview of Central Govt., Railway Ministry should be held clearly behind such activities for not taking necessary precautions.

He might have been given some powerful mind alternating substance like methaqualone which can cause schizophrenia like symptoms. Due to this he might have lost his orientation of time, place, and person making him a vegetable of sorts. He should regain healthy mental status shortly if he is alive and be able to limp back home. Hope he has not been pushed off somewhere. God save him and give mental strength to his family members. It should be noted that full fledged gangs travel in the general compartments carrying arms mostly during marriage season in Mangalore with the intention of looting the passengers!!!
