Mangaluru, Feb 22: The valedictory ceremony of BE – Responsible e-waste collection drive organised by the department of Botany and Computer Science of St Agnes College in collaboration with Lions District 317D was held at St Agnes College on Wednesday, February 22.
The e-waste collection drive was held from February 15 to February 22. Students of St Agnes College conducted an awareness campaign to collect e-wastes such as laptops, washing machiness, wires, CDs, printers, CPUs, computers and cassettes.
Speaking on the occasion, Zone chairperson dist 317 D Ln Lancy Carlo said, “We are happy that about our collaboration with St Agnes institution and we have been able to collect a large quantity of E-wastes. It will be scientifically recycled as we have authorised centres in India. E-waste recycling will help in reducing the production cost.”
Principal of St Agnes College, Dr M Venissa A C said, “Electronic gadgets are integral part of our lives. As supply of electronic gadgets increases, the demand also increases and there is a problem of managing such wastes. E-waste leads to environmental pollution and it affects all of us one or the other way. We need to be alert and awake and also be responsible in the use and disposal of e-gadgets.”
Joint secretary St Agnes institutions Dr Lydia AC, District governor Ln Sanjeith Shetty was also present.
Head of Department of Botany, Froidy welcomed the gathering and department of Computer Science in-charge Seementhini proposed the vote of thanks.
