Udupi, Feb 27: MLA Raghupati Bhat took officials to task during the inauguration ceremony of Adivasi Samudaya Bhavan for its defective construction.
Bhat expressed anguish against the sloppy work done by the engineers on the building that is built at a cost of Rs three crore.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Bhat said, “As a MLA I am not satisfied with the way this building is constructed. Do not think that I am criticising on an auspicious occasion. This is a community hall for Koragas. This should have been built with concern. There are many defects in the construction. Though prior instructions were given, good quality fans are not used. Your department does not have the courtesy of putting good quality fans to the community hall of Koragas? The sound is echoing in the hall. Can you not fix this? If the minister had arrived at this function, I would have said this in front of him.
“This community hall is not only for marriage. Is it possible to hold a seminar in this hall? People are not able to listen to what I am saying. Their words are getting echoed. Within three months, all the irregularities should be set right. This is the first ever community hall that is built for the Koraga community. In future, when you construct a community hall for scheduled castes, pay attention to every detail. I have to speak in a loud voice. What can you do within a week? Then the election code of conduct is going to be implemented. This kind of negligence does not augur well for the government engineering department. Koragas are the most backward community of our district. People representatives and officials should have concern towards their development,” he said.
