Mangaluru, Feb 27: Two miscreants attacked an auto-rickshaw driver with sword under the influence of ganja and also damaged the vehicle at the beach that falls under Panambur Mogaveera Mahasabha limits near Chitrapura.
Auto-rickshaw driver Sunil is seriously injured in the attack and is admitted to the hospital. Villagers of the area had warned against ganja smoking, selling and illicit acts on the rocks that are put to prevent sea erosion. It is said that due to this enmity the driver was assaulted. In addition, the miscreants threatened Madhava Suvarna, president of the village community.
Many people were on the spot while the miscreants swayed the sword but most of them escaped. One was caught by the locals, while the other managed to escape.
Panambur Mogaveera Mahasabha protested on the spot against the attack and said, “Though the police department was informed long ago about the ganja selling, consumption and illicit acts that are carried out by people arriving from other places, they did not take any action. The result is today’s vicious attack in broad daylight. Outsiders harass locals and also steal tender coconuts. These acts should be stopped and villagers should be given protection.”
