Karkala, Feb 28: Thieves broke into Aaradhya Jewellery at Nitte in the wee hours on February 27 and decamped with silver ornaments worth Rs 20000.
The thieves kept tipper truck across the shop to hide their act. They wore face masks and gloves and entered the shop by breaking open the lock and glass.
A watchman of a local shop, who witnessed the act, was threatened at gunpoint by the thieves. Karkala rural police visited the spot. Locals suspect a huge network behind the theft.
The thieves could not take away the gold ornaments worth lac of rupees and silver ornaments that were kept in the locker. It seems that the thieves wanted to loot in haste.
Police suspect that the gang must have arrived in a tipper and a car. Police are verifying the CCTV cameras footages.
The police were carrying beat duty on the same road in the night. They finished their patrolling duty and were checking the vehicles. The thieves knew about this and left their tipper halfway and escaped. Police have confiscated the tipper.
