New Delhi, Mar 1: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), a leading petroleum refinery based in Coastal Karnataka, has recently been honoured with the prestigious FICCI-GIZ Golden award for excellence in industrial disaster risk management organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The award ceremony was held on Tuesday February 28 at FICCI's headquarters in New Delhi.

This award is given for the excellence of systems and procedures displayed during Disaster Management Exercises under the monitoring of competent authorities. MRPL was recognized with Gold Award for effective measures taken in the field of Disaster Mitigation and Management. An offsite Exercise done to assess MRPL’s capabilities in disaster management in July 2022 was witnessed by officials from the National Disaster Management Authority, Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority, Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management officials, Factories & Boilers Department, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Fire & Emergency services, Police department, and Mutual aid members.

MRPL's Emergency Response & Disaster Management Plan (ERDMP) & On-site emergency plan, guided by PNGRB and the Department of Factories Boilers Industrial health and safety, respectively, have played a crucial role in ensuring the refinery's preparedness in the event of any untoward incidents.

The FICCI-GIZ awards recognize and encourage organizations with outstanding performance in industrial disaster risk management.
