Bengaluru, Mar 1: Karnataka is ranked third in number of cyber crimes. People are losing crore of rupees in cyber crime every day.
The state police department informed that more than Rs 363 crore were fleeced by cyber fraudsters in 2022. Most of the victims are from the capital city. Apart from Bengaluru, Mandya, Ramanagara and Mysuru reported most cases of cyber crime.
Most of the cyber fraudsters are of North India origin. They conceal their identity at all phases of the crime. So detecting them is a difficult task. Last year, the police have recovered Rs 116 crore.
Most of the fraudsters operate from their bases in Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Haryana. They use bank accounts of others to receive money. Once the account receives money it gets transferred to some other account. As this account is already hacked, the amount gets transferred within seconds. It is not easy to trace these cheaters.
Around 75% of investigation of cyber crime involves technical expertise. The investigation is based on the mobile number used by the fraudsters, IP address, networking and location trace and also the bank account details. However, in most of the cases all these are fake. So it is difficult to catch hold of the real culprits according to senior cyber crime police officers.
