Mangaluru, Mar 2: Kambala Kare that was built at Morla-Bola of Naringana village in Ullal taluk by the grant of MLA U T Khader has been inaugurated. Lava-Kusha Jodukare Kambala that stopped due to certain circumstances will be held on March 25 and 26.
The new government Kambala ground was inaugurated on Wednesday March 1 by Venkappa Kajava, honorary president of Lava-Kusha Jodukare Kambala utsava committee.
Speaking on the occasion, Khader said, “Kambala and Yakshagana are the two eyes of coastal Karnataka. The responsibility of retaining these unique traditions is on the shoulders of younger generation. Earlier this used to be held at Talapady by the grant of state government. Now Naringana rural area will improve due to Kambala ground.”
Prashant Kajava, executive president of Kambala committee said, “Kambala is a sport in which people of all religions participate. Government should provide grant in budget for the same. Achievers of Kambala should be honoured. Pension scheme should be implemented for Kambala jockeys.”
Kudi Kambala for buffaloes was held on Wednesday at the new Kambala grounds. Buffaloes of various guthu houses were run for demonstration purpose. On March 25 and 26 official Lava-Kusha Jodu Kare Kambala will be held.
Shailaja Shetty presided. Fr Fredrick Correa, Gunapala Kadamba, Mamata Gatty, Chandrahasa Karkera, Naveenchandra Alva and others were present.
