Sullia, Mar 4: Two farm workers have been arrested for attempted murder and robbery at the home of the farm's owner in Karikkala, Pambethadi village on March 2. The accused, identified as Varadaraj (30) and Saijan P P (38), were daily wage laborers at Vishwanath's farm for the past four months and lived in a shed near the house.
According to reports, the accused took Rs 200 each and claimed they were going to Panja market. They returned late in the evening and climbed to the upper story of the house at around 9.30 pm. Varadaraj held Gayatri (61), the wife of the owner Vishwanath, by the neck and demanded gold and cash, while Saijan held her legs. When Gayatri screamed, neighbors Suresh and Prema rushed to her rescue, but Varadraj managed to stab her neck twice. She was treated at Kadaba government hospital.
Gayatri and her husband Vishwanath lived together, but Vishwanath cannot walk. The accused were reportedly aware of this and planned to murder Gayatri and loot the gold and cash in the house. The Subramanya police have arrested the accused, with Varadaraj hailing from Chitradurga and Saijan from Dharmasthala. Further investigation is ongoing.
