Mangaluru, Mar 5: The District Congress staged a protest on Saturday, March 4, at the clock tower against the Narendra Modi-led central government for the recent hike in the price of cooking gas.
During the protest, the Congress party representatives prepared chapatis on the streets using firewood and took a dig at prime minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah, saying that it's time to send them wood. The state government, which is involved in 40% commission, has failed to understand the problems of the common man. Congress leaders questioned why the BJP, which protested against the price hike on cooking gas during Manmohan Singh's tenure as prime minister, is now silent.
The Congress representatives raised slogans against the BJP government. Former MLA Abhayachandra Jain, J R Lobo, Mohiudeen Bawa, former MLC Ivan D'Souza, Youth Congress leader Mithun Rai, Inayath Ali, District Women Congress president Shalet Pinto, District Youth Congress president Lukman Bantwal, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, and others were present at the protest.
