Fr Muller Knowledge Centre, Memorial Building Inaugurated

Mangalore, Jun 16: Father Muller Medical College Decennial Memorial Building and Central Library (knowledge centre) was inaugurated here on Thursday, June 16.
Father Muller Medical College completed its ten successful years in 2009. To mark this event and to enhance the knowledge of the students of various courses of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, a new building with state-of-the-art facilities was built.
The Medical College Decennial Memorial Building and Central library was inaugurated by Dr K N Vijaya Prakash, commissioner, Mangalore City Corporation. The inaugural function commenced with a short prayer service which was followed by the blessing of the new building by Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore.
Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of Fr Muller Charitable Institutions welcomed the dignitaries and the others gathered for the occasion.
K N Vijaya Prakash in his speech called the city a "cradle of education". He stressed on the importance of libraries as they are a source of enlightenment. Vijaya Prakash praised the institution for the great strides it has taken towards the socio-economically backward. "Let us be the architects of our economy with concern and compassion for the poor and the underprivileged," he said concluding his speech.
Library is a form of exercise for the mind where not only is the individual benefited but also the community in general, the Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza said. He appealed to the students to read more books and to spend more time at the library and gain more knowledge.
The architect, Christopher Noronha and the builder Divakar of the knowledge centre were felicitated by the Bishop.
J P Alva, dean of the institute and Fr Denis D’Sa, administrator FMMC were the other dignitaries present on the dais. Fr D’Sa proposed the vote of thanks.
The four-storied complex consists of a central library with postgraduate and undergraduate section, reading halls, e-library with all the modern facilities and two spacious ultra-modern conference halls.
This knowledge centre is connected with the American and the British councils and Mangalore University through institutional membership, together with membership to DELNET e-resources and subscription to "up-to-date" data base. The centre is linked to RGUHS HELINET consortium to access their e-resources, and is is equipped with more than 26,000 textbooks and various health science journals. The library is automated and also biometric units are installed at the entry and exit of the library.
