Mangaluru, Mar 5: With temperatures on the rise in the district, deputy commissioner Ravikumar M R on Sunday, March 5, has issued a circular note on precautionary measures to be taken in the hostels of educational institutions.
To maintain good health among students, all educational institutions should adhere to the following precautionary measures in their hostels. Hostels must provide clean drinking water and, when possible, mild boiled hot water. Hostel rooms and utensils used for cooking must be clean, and those who cook food in the hostels should maintain good personal hygiene and keep their hands clean. A health checkup should be conducted for kitchen staff and those who prepare food every six months. Additionally, water samples from various sources supplied to the kitchen should be tested in the laboratory once a month.
Hostel authorities must keep bathrooms and toilets clean, particularly during the monsoon when food spoils quickly. Boiled safe food should be provided to all students, and students should be cautioned to drink pure drinking water and liquid food to prevent dehydration. The waste produced in the kitchen should be scientifically disposed of, and if any student faces a health problem, health officers or the health department should be contacted immediately.
