Mangaluru, Mar 7: The city court sentenced Vinod (46), a resident of Maroli, to three years in prison for sexually harassing a four-year-old girl.
In May 2017, the parents of the child left their daughter with their neighbor. Vinod, who also lived in the same locality, took the child to his house and sexually assaulted her. When the child screamed, neighbors rushed to rescue her, and a case was filed at Kankanady police station.
Inspector Ravi Naika filed a charge sheet in the court, and Justice K M Radhakrishna of Additional and Session Court FTSC - 2 (POCSO) conducted the inquiry. The accused was found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of Rs 50,000. If the convict fails to pay the fine, an additional four-month prison sentence will be imposed.
The prosecution was represented by special public prosecutor Venkataraman Swamy C.
