Mangaluru, Mar 7: Two men, interstate cow thieves, were arrested by Bajpe police station sub inspector Poovappa and personnel on the morning of March 6 at Addoor check post.
The arrested accused are identified as Irshad (32), resident of Ganjimath primary health care centre vicinity and Irfan alias Malar Irfan (29), resident of Manjeshwar in Kasargod district of Kerala. Madadka Farooq managed to escape from the police
Police confiscated a car and other equipments used by the thieves during stealing of cows.
When the arrested were interrogated, they confessed to stealing of six cows from Mittur under Vittal police station limits recently and two cows from Badaga Edapadavu Daddi.
Cases are registered against the accused in Bajpe, Konaje, Kavoor, Moodbidri, Mangaluru North, Punjalakatte, Bantwal City, Banakal, Basavanahalli and Chikkamagaluru city police stations in connection with cow theft and looting.
Local organizations at Mittur had planned a protest against the six cows that were stolen recently.
SI Poovappa, Gurukanti, ASI Ramanna Poojary, Sujan, Rashida Sheikh, Rajesh, Santhosh, Sanjeeva Bajantri, Basavaraj Patil, Mohan, Umesh and Kenchappa participated in the operation.
