Mangalore, Jun 17: Due to incessant rains over the last couple of days in the city, an old tree was uprooted in Kalpana Road of Vas lane area here on Friday June 17 at around 3.30 pm.

Two electric poles were also damaged in the process, causing disruption in the power supply in the vicinity of Vas Lane.

Fire squad personnel from Pandeshwar arrived immediately and cut off the branches of the tree. The tree and the two electric poles fell on either sides of the road. Not much damage was done.

MESCOM officials coordinated with the fire squad personnel to clear the area. Traffic police set up barricades to stop and divert the vehicles moving on this road.

Speaking to Daijiworld, local corporator Naveen D’Souza, who was at the spot said that power supply in the area was restored soon after and that the traffic is back to normal.

Referring to one of the pictures, depicting the guy untangling the branches and the wiring, I like the idea of hoisting him on another man`s shoulder and admire the man holding him for his endurance and stamin - a novel device indeed! By the way, who wants the ladder any more?

Look at the pictures above. The MESCOM/Fire brigade people do not have basic necessary items such as Ladders etc. to carryout the work. Instead, they sit on the shoulder of another person to perform the repair work. I am reminded of "MOSARU KUDIKE" festival in the city.

Unless the power supply is not made underground Mangloreans will go on suffering. On top of this are the frequent power cuts and surges!!!
