Mangaluru, Mar 12: Dooje, the star Kambala buffalo that gained fame for winning a series of medals in Kambala races, has fallen ill. The owners, Dolphy D’Souza and his brother Derik D’Souza, who reside in Padavu Kanadka, suspect that curious visitors who came to see the buffalo may have used black magic.
Dolphy stated, "Dooje and Ermude reached the semi-finals at Kakkepadavu Kambala. They placed second and first, respectively, in the Kambalas of Venur and Hokkadigoli. Both buffaloes fell ill during Aikala Kambala, but Ermude recovered quickly. Unfortunately, Dooje's health deteriorated and it is only slightly recovering now. Dooje has won 68 medals in the past 10 years."
"Hundreds of people used to visit our house to see Dooje. Some even fed the buffalo fruits. We didn't stop them, but we don't know what happened to Dooje. Recently, when we were cleaning the shed, we found threads, ash, and pieces of tin used in black magic. We also found a train ticket from Chennai to Mangaluru. We don't know who did this, but we believe that God will punish those who have done wrong."
There is speculation on social media about the possibility of black magic. The D'Souza brothers are now not allowing anyone to see Dooje and have decided to install a CCTV camera at the gate.
