Kaup, Mar 12: A bike rider was seriously injured after an ambulance collided with his bike in Kaup. The incident happened on Sunday, March 12 in the afternoon on NH 66.
The bike rider, identified as Rithesh Devadiga, a resident of Uchila, was seriously injured and admitted to Manipal Hospital.
The accident took place when an ambulance travelling from Udupi to Mangaluru collided with Rithesh's bike which was Udupi-bound from Uchila.
Traffic on the Mangaluru-Udupi road has been diverted and vehicles are moving on a single lane due to the asphalation work going on in Kaup on NH 66. The ambulance driver was driving his vehicle in the opposite direction and hit the bike.
Rithesh was thrown off his bike onto the road when the ambulance hit him thus sustaining a serious head injury. He was treated by locals and taken to Manipal Hospital by ambulance from the Kaup Primary Health Centre.
Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon rushed to the spot and took the contractor of the highway work to task for undertaking unplanned repair works.
Kaup police visited the spot, conducted an inspection and took the ambulance and its driver into custody.
