Kaup, Mar 13: The bike rider, who was seriously injured after an ambulance hit his two wheeler on NH 66 succumbed to injuries in the hospital. The accident had taken place on Sunday March 12.
The deceased is identified as Rithesh Devadiga (35), son of Shekhara Devadiga and Subhadra Devadiga couple, residents of Kampa near Ucchila Narayanaguru Road.
The ambulance driver who was driving towards Mangaluru from Karwar had violated the warning board at the beginning of the service road and hit the bike rider.
The tragedy is that the ambulance was not carrying any patient and was just going casually. But the negligence of the driver cost Rithesh his life.
Police arrested Shivaprasad (27), resident of Subramanya. Rithesh was unmarried and involved in many religious activities. He used to blow the trumpet during religious ceremonies and was involved in decorating the chariot during Ucchila temple festival.
A girl student had died on Saturday at the same spot. MLA Lalaji Mendon has asked traffic police to man the spots till the highway asphalting work is completed.
