Mangaluru, Mar 13: Fire broke out once again at the Pacchanady dump yard on Monday, March 13.
This is the third time in this year the Pacchanady dump yard has caught fire. Fire tenders from NMPA and MRPL rushed to the spot to douse the fire.
Thick smoke engulfed Vamanjoor and Pacchanady areas after the dump yard caught fire.
The locals had a tough time in dealing with the fresh fire that broke out on Monday even as they have been facing health hazards since the last three months due to regular occurrences of fire.
The district administration and MCC have constantly failed to take adequate measures to avoid fire incidents at the Pacchanady dump yard, while locals are demanding a permanent solution to the fire incidents that are continuing to dog them. Locals are also demanding the need to shift them from the area keeping the health concerns in mind.
Pacchanady has three schools and colleges in the vicinity and the health of students remains a major concern. Locals are demanding swift action from the district administration, MCC and elected representatives to ensure their safety and also come up with a permanent solution for the fire incidents.
Motorists also found difficulty to drive in the area as Vamanjoor and Pacchanady was covered with thick smoke.
