Bantwal, March 13: An electric transformer at Manjalpade Palla, Sajipamunnoor grama here exploded with a huge sound and fire causing panic among local people. This incident has ever since gone viral on social media.

Locals said oil leakage was reported from the transformer. The explosion occurred at 7.30 pm on March 12, Sunday. People who realised the danger tried to douse the fire with water and sand. Mescom personnel arrived later and took up the repairs.

Electricity supply remained suspended here since yesterday. Mescom has assured of regular supply after completion of the work.

Locals acted swiftly and prevented the fire from spreading to the hills.

MESCOM is a rampant looter ... and all Mangaloreans catered under MESCOM are fools keeping their mouths shut and paying up instead of protesting. In Bombay and entire Maharashtra, if you do not use electricity for 3 months at a stretch (if you are a customer of MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd) - erstwhile MSEB (Maharashtra State Electricity Board), you just have to shell out a meter rental of Rs. 90 (for a 3 or 4 KW phase entitlement). Tariff too, the first 100 units consumed falls under the Rs. 3.36 bracket contrast to Mangalore where it is Rs. 4.00 and above. Unscrupulous useless piece of shit MESCOM loots people charging them Rs. 300.00 or so and yet people pay without a whimper, murmur or protest. Day light robbery. If such looting tactics were to happen in Maharashtra, I think the entire network of MSEDCL would be torched and incinerated. Mangalore people are like sheep and goats ---- don't have the guts in themselves and resilience in their blood to counter attack such looting tactics. No wonder MESCOM takes them for a ride. Shame on them.

It is not uncommon in electrical installations to have explosions... But they are preventable in most places... We must support mescom workers who play with their lives to provide us with power supply.... Sporadic incidents like this happen even in advanced economies... I have witnessed such expolsion during my working tenure in Dubai... Thanks to God... Luckily there is no loss of lives....

I would urge you to have a closer look on the components used in the transformers; they are not even galvanized; with asking rate of 40% what more can you expect; this is a perfect example of Make in India!

Worst power utility company; uses third grade cheap quality equipment; absolutely no safety accessories provided for workmen as most of them are on contract; only higher ups enjoying the Cream!
