Bangalore: Another Prostitution Racket Busted: Live Band Artistes Rescued

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Jun 20: The prostitution business in the city seems to be getting murkier with the police unearthing new rackets day by day. In the latest raid, the central crime branch officials rescued three live band artistes from a house in Koramangala.

The three of them had been detained illegally in the house and were forced into prostitution.

Earlier the same crime branch team had rescued 10 live band girls from a city lodge. Two had been arrested, one Amit Kumar from UP and Ravi Kumar Mehta from Bihar, while two others gave the slip. The pimps used to provide live band artistes to dance bars, it is learnt.

The dance bars in the city were closed soon after the incident came to light. However, for the women, it made life worse as they were then forced into 'serving' clients and were threatened with starvation if they refused. Women from UP, West Bengal, Mumbai and other parts of the country were enticed with false promises of better jobs and brought to the city for prostitution.

In this instance too, the pimps operated their protitution business from a rented house in Koramangala. The rescued girls will soon be sent back to their hometowns with police security, sources said.

What next? After the women are rescued are any attempts made to send them to therapists for councelling? These poor women should be provided adequate care - understanding and help to live decent lives. They should be sent to some centers where they can be taught some trade to make a healthy living. Arresting them is not the solution.

Will some social body try and help these helpless women?
