Udupi: Anti-corruption Campaign Should Begin with Individual: Justice Hegde

Udupi, Jun 20: “Democratic governance and the judiciary have been transformed into business and politics has lost its credibility. The government that is by the people, for the people and of the people, has become a government that is run by a few for a few,” said Lokayukta Santosh Hegde.

He was speaking at an interactive meet with students at Bhavani Mantap of Ambalapady temple here on Monday June 20. The interactive meet was organized by Balakedarara Vedike and the District Information Centre.

When the students queried about chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy taking an oath at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala over corruption charges, Hegde replied that God should punish both.

In his message to the students, Hegde said that the anti-corruption campaign should begin at the individual level in every household so as to reform the society and heighten its impact on the country.

He further added the Lokpal may not put an end to corruption, but it can certainly help curb rampant corruption to a great extent.

He also regretted not attending the meet on Lokpal Bill in New Delhi on Monday June 20, but said that he will attend the same on Tuesday June 21.

Over 300 students from schools and colleges of the district participated in the interactive meet with Justice Hegde.

Speaking to the media, he said that Lokpal can come into effect only if there was consensus on all issues raised by the civil society.

Expressing his concern over the issue of bringing the Prime Minister under the ambit of the Lokpal, he said that there is no point in investigating the PM once he quits office. Though he may not be directly involved in corruption, there might be possibilities of protecting a wrong-doer, which is equally offensive, he said.

He further said that it would be better for Anna Hazare to organise a nation-wide tour rather an going on another fast on August 16, in case there is no consensus on the outstanding issues between the government and the civil society by then.

I agree with Justice Hegde that the anti-corruption campaign should begin at the individual level in every household and Lokpal may not put an end to corruption.
There is so much hype on Lokpal as if that is the end to corruption. Lokpal bill will be another law similar to law prevalent in the country today which comes into effect only after the relevant crime is committed and can not stop the crime. Even with the stringent laws, there are murders, rapes and cheating taking place in every level and corruption can not be any better with this bill. There is a need to change the mindset of the people and corruption need to be fought at every spheres starting from Taluk offices which is directly linked to the common people. These so called civil society group should form the anti corruption squads of people at every level to fight corruption.
The way the anti corruption campaign is going on, it seems to have lost its direction and the so called civil society leaders are happy with the publicity and celebrity status. There seems to be hidden agenda of destabilizing the government by undermining the democratic institutions. These self proclaimed leaders think that they are only sanctified people and all politicians and government are completely corrupt. Quality of the discourse by these civilized people looks more uncivilized than from the government.
People are supporting Anna Hazare for the cause of corruption only and there will be surely no support for the way these people are behaving in an authoritarian manner.

Mr. Langoolacharya, Are you kidding to say no corruption and reservation in USA?
Are you aware of Enron and others scandals?
Are you aware of the financial collapse of Lehman brothers? and financial crises that brought down real estate due to manipulative lending?
Are you aware of lobbying by senators for political gains?
Are you aware of monies paid by CIA to others within and outside of USA?
Are you aware of the fate of Black people in USA and natives(red Indians)? Segregation and affirmative action programs?

In USA laws are stringent, this to a certain extent decreases the corruptness in people.

Corruption is all over the world- in some countires it is open and in others its hidden and manipulative. In India, it is common and rampant and we the people of India encourage corruption one way or other to get the work done sometimes. Dont you think?

Please do not hurt Justice Santosh Hegde. He has created lot of awareness about the corruption. His father Late K.S. Hegde who was former Judge of Supreme Court had resigned from the post to protest against the emergency imposed by the late prime minister Indira Gandhi. I had a occassion to here Late K.S. Hegde he was very Strait forward. If he speaks to BJP people that does not mean that he is puppet of them.

Pastor E. W. Frank, Udupi, Please note that Lokpal Bill has been drafted only to trap central govt and not for state govt. Hazare or Baba Ramdev don’t have guts to talk against Yeddy or Reddy. Missing draft committee meeting is unacceptable but I respect Justice Hegde he is an honest person but don’t have any authority to punish any culprit, he can only trap them. Jan LokPal bill will give him authority even to punish the culprits.

Just pray to GOD that this bill get approved in Parliament. I am sure noble Italian madam will see that the bill is passed during this monsoon session. In India corruption is done by Indians and not by foreigners. BJP is misleading Anna to delay the LOKPAL bill so that the blame may come on UPA. Let the parliament decide whether P. M. has to be included or not?

His Lokaykta office is open and all political leaders present and he is even eating with them....When BJP leader keep hand on his head, he keep quiet ...it is better that public to scale the performance his this Lokayukttha...

Santosh Hegde's talks and actions regarding Lokpal does not make sense anymore. It has been proved, he is nothing but a puppet of political parties. Since he could not touch them, without cleansing his own state, he plans a bigger role at national level. He has realized fully that without the blessings of politicians, he is in no position to carry out his business. After seeing his inability, I wonder if we still have honest people in our country to tackle corruption!!

Pastor E. W. Frank, Udupi Dear Pastor, don't jump to conclusion before investigation. If the Central govt. / CBI / Lok Ayuktha had sufficient evidence to prove the lot of allegations against the CM, he could have been in jail by now. The CM has admitted that he did mistakes, which were considered norms during the tenure of earlier CMs. How did you conclude Mr.Yeddyurappa is corrupt. He daringly challenged Mr.Kumaraswamy who kept on raising false allegations to take truth test at Dharmasthala. Now HDK is already backtracking saying that he would not bring his family to the temple.

Prima facie it looks as said by Pastor E.W.Frank,Udupi.However as far as Hegde concerned, he has no full power to take on corrupt politicians head on.Apart from that he is working under non cooperative state Govt.Mr Hegde's base may stemmed from Sanghparivar, yet he kept balance between ideology and responsibility.

As far Anna concerned, he is concentrating national level rather than region. But some are how he failed to focus on Karnataka's corruption during his last visit to Bangalore.Anna, being anti crusader should have condemned the scale of corruptions in Karnataka but preferred to maintain silence is a puzzling matter to anti corruption fighters.Give enough time to them(ANNA HAZARE & Hegde)and
after that it is better to come to logical conclusion.

    Dear Daiji:

I have lost faith on Anna Hazare, Ramdev and Justice Santhosh Hegde. They seem to be pakka politicians, backed by BJP. This is only a stunt. No doubt Justice Hegde is definitely clean but controlled by L.K. Advani also Anna Hazare but they are not honest to the core. No one can stop corruption in India. Why Hazare and Hegde do not
Catch Karnataka CM known to be the No.1 corrupt in Karnataka? And many others in Karnataka? Why they are silent? Our people of India also responsible by paying bribe to Police, Government servants and even to ministers and MP's MLA's etc. I do not pay to these people but still I get my work done from the same people. Our own people should stop giving a coin as bribe, only then the corruption will be put to an end. Let us work against corruption individually and claim our constitutional rights.

Election time receiving Liquor and money and Saree should stop, and never vote for such people. We Indians are not Christians, Hindus or Muslims, it is for the individual to choose a Religion and individual to choose a candidate who is clean. Never be intimidated by the corrupt politicians, who will even fall down at your feet during the election time. We have good people in India but they do not run for election because all are corrupt. Let India grow with dignity, and integrity and let us unitedly strive for that.

    People,

I absolutely agree with Santosh Hegde.

If US is a great country in the world today there are two main reasons for this.

First there is hardly any corruption in US.

Secondly there is no reservation in US.

I know now I receive attack e-mails for this from reservation beneficiaries and Corruption supporters from all countries including Kuwait and UK.....

    Bring it on guys........

    Jai Hooooooooooooooooooooo

    Langoolacharya.
