Mangaluru, Mar 19: Garbage collection has stopped in the city for the last six days as the outsourced civic workers of Karnataka are holding protests in Bengaluru urging the government to implement direct payment of their salaries.
As a result of the strike, garbage is lying all over the city in heaps on roadsides and near the houses. Usually garbage is cleared in all wards everyday. Due to the strike, huge garbage has piled up and is lying unattended and stinking near hotels and apartments.
STP operators and underground drainage workers are also partaking in the protest and the underground drainage system has begun to create inconvenience.
Wetwells and STPs are not being operated. So many wet wells and STPs in the city have got blocked. This has increased pressure on manholes in many areas and the sewage has started leaking on the road.
