Mangaluru/Udupi, Mar 22: The Holy month of Ramadan will begin in Dakshina Kannada from Thursday, March 23 informed Central Jumma Masjid's Khatib Al Haji Abul Akram Mohammed Bhakavi on behalf of the district Kazi Al-Haj Twaka Ahmed Musliyar.
As the first sighting of the moon of the holy month of Ramadan has happened at Calicut, Kapad, Udupi district Khazi Shaikhuna M Abdul Hameed Musliar has also announced that fasting should be observed from Thursday. The first day of fasting for the holy month is determined by the sighting of the new moon.
This was informed by Udupi district Sunni composite Jamat chief secretary M A Bavu Haji Muloor.
During Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, Muslims across the world fast from dawn to dusk from not only food but also worldly pleasures. Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. Ramadan culminates with the celebration of the Id-ul-Fitr festival.
Millions of Muslims across the world would be observing the Ramadan.
