Mangalore, Jun 23: The fight of street vendors opposing the 'operation tiger' to evict encroached shops reached its crescendo on Thursday June 23 after series of protest by the fraternity went unheard. The vendors were all set to gherao deputy speaker N Yogish Bhat's residence at MG Road, when they were stopped by the police midway near SDM College.

Santhosh Kumar, one of the street vendors expressing grief in front of the media said that Mangalore City Corporation's administration is only for the rich, while we poor vendors are harassed by not letting us run the petty business enterprise.

On Wednesday June 22, honorary president of the Street Vendors' Union Sunil Kumar Bajal had announced that a procession will be carried out from State Bank of India terminal to the residence of Yogish Bhat.

On Wednesday morning when 'operation tiger' was carried out near State Bank area over a hundred activists attached to various unions, who got whiff of the operation gathered in support of the street vendors. The vehicle was stopped from going further and the goods were taken back from their possession. An argument between Pandeshwar police and protestors too ensued.

The protestors' plea to MCC to stop 'operation tiger' with immediate effect also did not receive favourable response.

However, it is gathered that Yogish Bhat is in Bangalore.
