Mangaluru Mar 30: Deputy commissioner (DC) Ravi Kumar said, “There are 17,58,647 voters in the eight constituencies of the Dakshina Kannada (DK) district among which 8,59,899 are male, 8,98,132 female and 75 transgender.
Addressing media here on Thursday March 30, Ravi Kumar said, “The gazette notification will be issued on April 13, the last day for nomination is April 20, the scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on April 21 and the final date for the withdrawal of the nominations is April 24. Voting will be held on May 10 and counting on May 13 at NITK Surathkal.
“As many as 33,577 are young voters and 60,934 are 80+ and person with disabled voters in the eight constituencies. There are 1,860 polling stations across the district among which 100 are model polling stations having themes of Yakshagana, Kambala, blue wave, heritage, go green, ethnic, Sakhi, PWD etc.
“Ahead of the election, 24 surveillance teams, 60 flying squads, 60 static surveillance teams, 184 sector officer teams, 8 video viewing teams, 8 nodal officers, 8 accounting teams and 8 assistant expenditure observers are appointed. As many as 27 check posts have been set up among which 10 are inter-state, 8 inter-district, and 9 local.
“In order to complain on the violation of model code of conduct, C-vigil mobile app has been developed. One can complain by dialling the toll free number 1950.
“The model code of conduct is not applicable to conduct any religious events like Bhoota Kola, Yakshagana. But in the name of religious programmes, the publicity of political parties or leaders is completely restricted. We have also removed banners and hoarding of political parties from private and government properties.
“Within 10 days of time, arms or weapons should be deposited at the local police station. We have seized Rs 10 lac, 200 litres of liquor and 65 kg drugs during the checking ahead of elections. We are monitoring social media also as attempts could be made to disrupt law and order with provocative posts. Action will be taken against them. Whenever you carry cash above Rs 50,000, there is a need of necessary documents pertaining to the cash.
“On April 1, eight companies of centre paramilitary will visit the 8 constituencies and conduct area dominance parade,” he said.
