Spectacular ‘Tulu Jaatre 2023’ organised in Qatar

Doha, Mar 30: Tulu Jaatre on March 17 by Tulukoota Qatar was a mega blockbuster with more than 3000 footfalls and the ground being full throughout the event. The event had coastal cuisine, fun traditional games for adults and kids. The stage events had colours of India and kept the crowd excited throughout the event.

The venue Dynamic Sports Complex was decorated with colourful buntings, traditional settings such as a lovely Kambala photo booth, life size Thaati Raaya on either side of the stage. The main entrance was beautifully designed with a welcome arch, colourful pathway and the canter post extending buntings and lightings all over the venue attracted not only Tuluvaas /Kannadigas but several thousand from the expatriate community of Qatar as a whole.

President of Tulukoota Qatar Kiran Anand, special guest of honour Ravi Katapadi, Karnataka Rajyotsava Awardee Tulukoota Patron and advisor M.Ravi Shetty, guest of honour Asmath Ali, advisory board chairperson Chaitali U Shetty, advisor Ramachandra Shetty, founder member and managing director of Middle East Galvanising Felix Lobo, senior member Abdulla Monu and MC members joined for lighting of the lamp which marked the auspicious commencement of Tulu Jaatre-2023.

There was a brief public function and lead MC for the evening was Saiheel Rai supported by Reena Castelino. President Kiran Anand escorted chief guest - ICC president A P Manikantan, special guest of honour social worker Ravi Katapadi, former ICC president Baburajan, infrastructure partner ATS Group MD and Tulukoota patron Ravi Shetty, platinum sponsor Golden Trading & Decoration MD and past president of Tulukoota Qatar Asmath Ali, advisory board chairperson Chaitali Uday Shetty and advisor Ramachandra Shetty to the dais.

Kiran Anand welcomed the gathering, thanked the MC, full committee/volunteers and sponsors for the tremendous support Tulukoota Qatar has got in bringing out such a magnificent show. He also remembered and appreciated the founders and previous management committees for bringing Tulukoota to where it is today. Guests spoke, lauded and applauded the amazing event and termed it as a mini passage to India. Past president and patron M Ravi Shetty was felicitated in recognition of having been bestowed with the prestigious Karnataka Rajyothsava Award-2022. Ravi Shetty in his acceptance speech thanked Tulukoota and conveyed that he owes a lot to Tulukoota and all other Karnataka based associations for whatever he is today. He also thanked the President and the entire team for the herculean efforts that had been put in for several days to bring out such a mega event.

President and guests also felicitated the special guest of honour Ravi Katapadi a distinguished social worker from Tulunadu. Ravi Katapadi is known for having enacted different complex roles with tedious makeup & costumes like avatar, Spiderman and so on, consistently contributing the proceedings of the same for the treatment of kids suffering with life threatening diseases for the last eight years during the Navaratri festival. He had also appeared in the Kaun banega crorepati episode of Amitabh Bachchan. MCA president, Aloysius D’Souza who with the his team had set up Canara Konkan food stall felicitated Ravi Katpady on stage along with the extended support for the noble works of Ravi Katpady.

Jaatre edition of Nirel, an annual souvenir of Tulukoota Qatar was released during Jaatre-23. It comprised of all the details of the events that were conducted in past one year. It showcased the achievements of the organization in the sports and cultural field in various platforms.

Food and Games Stall at Tulu Jaatre-23

Elegantly set up food stalls comprised of a variety of coastal dishes such as kori/rotti, mutton/gasi, korisukka/neerdosa, charmburi/chaats, pelakkayi, gatti, patrode, veg pulav, kesaribath, patrode, meen gasi, fry/rice, holige, jilebi, chakli, nippattu, mutton sukka/ghee rice, soji, mutton/chicken biryani, buns/golibaje/neerulibaje/podi, uppad, bale cha parka, gadbad, gola, dosa varieties, egg/omlette, sea food platter, varieties in mutton, tea and gadbad, various varieties of egg and so on enhanced the coastal ambience and spread afar the Tulunadu fragrance.

Gathered audience also enjoyed varieties of games within the stalls and also off the stalls which included showcasing the strengths of coconuts (tarayi kuttuni) ,which is one of the traditional folk games of Tulunadu others included gargara mandala, car race, bottle gala, for kids also Jaatre had ring and flipping the bottle and pili ta bayi. Jewellery stalls displayed special attractions for the gathered ladies additionally there was also a book stall for kids.

MC of the evening Saiheel Rai entertained the kept audience glued with his spot and exciting games. The audience enjoyed and also engaged with him.

The Cultural Extravaganza at Tulu Jaatre-23

Coastal Karnataka special pili vesha/pili nalike (tiger dance) was the centre of attraction at Tulu Jaatre 2023 which created an electrifying vibe at the venue. Along with the guest artists Prathviraj, Yashwin and Deekshith Kiran, Koota members Shree Prasad Acharya, Karthik and Nithin and especially the kinni pilees of koota children Sushaan, Sashmeet, Tejomay, Devansh, Surya and Anay mesmerised the audience with their power packed performances which had to be repeated due to public demand.

Another main attraction of Jaatre was coastal Karnataka's popular folk dance Yakshagana. All member team of Tulukoota Qatar comprising Shyni Hariprasad Shetty, Saurabh Shetty, Sharath Poojary and Sumanth Shetty (scripted and choreographed) performed with grace and professional brilliance to the thunderous applause of the audience.

Baila dance:The dance of Nativity

A dance moved the audience and brought in the joy of celebrations. It is joyful dance with endearing music. The participants were Anett Crasta, Anil James Fernandes, Della M Rego – coordinator, Derick Crasta, George Menezes, Glen Rohan D'Sa, Jovial D'Souza, Lawrence , Sunil D’Souza, Raison Ferrao, Vivian Lewis, ever active Della Rego coordinated the group and also made sure the venue is available for the practice. This beautiful dance was choreographed by Derick Crasta.

Tulukoota members once again presented a foot tapping unique dance and the dance infused the audience in the theme of the Jaatre. The dance was cheered with whistles and hooting as it was endearing to watch the girls sweep everyone with the charm.

The dance was performed by Akshaya Shetty, Shweta Suvarna, Pravina Shetty, Eesha Kotian, Haripriya Billawa Vasanthakumar, Mansi Somayaji, Moksha Shetty,,Shamita Adiga,Shanvi S Raj ,Yuktha Puranik. The dance was choreographed by Pravina Shetty, under guidance of Chaitali U Shetty and Sandhya Rai.

Inter-Organization Dance Competition

A force to reckon with is when a larger community comes together under one umbrella. This is amalgamation and the diversity brings in colours adding to the social fabric making it a richer canvas to experience and to be with. This was experienced by the audience in Jaatre -23 with an inter organization Dance competition. The inter organization dance competition was a value addition in a unique way and the enthusiasm entertained the crowd.

The three organizations which participated are 1) MCA- Mangalore Cultural Organization 2) Qatar Tamilzar Sangham 3) Kerala Women’s Initiative Qatar. 

The competition was judged by - Visnupriya Ajithasatheesh Kumar dance teacher from DPS and Aparana Panikar, a dance teacher from Bhavan’s Public School.

Kerala women’s Initiative Qatar was the winner of the competition and won the prize amount of 1,500 Qatar Riyals.

Remembering Mohan J and tribute to him

Mohan J, a long term member and past sports secretary of Tulukoota recently passed away and left a void in the organization. He has left a legacy of volunteer work for all of us to learn and aspire to be.

It was the desire of TKQ to reminisce and ruminate memories of Mohan J, about his journey with Tulukoota in Qatar.MC member Manju read presented a memoir of Mohan with emotions and Karthik made a live portrait of Mohan J.

Raffaele Coupon winners

TKQ had a range of prizes and that were awarded to the winners. The suspense had the crowd wait till the end and 10 prizes were won by the crowd. Diamond ring from Malabar was the first bumper prize and TV from safari was the second bumper prize.

Umesh Acharya and Jerald D'Souza with the support of Savious Crasta captured the proceedings of Tulu Jaatre -23 with their beautiful videography and photography which was also streamed live on FB.

Along with the president Kiran Anand, vice president Chaitali Suhas Shetty, general secretary Sagar Kotian, cultural secretary Sandhyalakshmi Rai, sports secretary Ashwin K, joint cultural secretary Supriya Suresh Bhat, membership coordinator and PR in-charge Dhanlakshmi Rai, joint sports secretary Imran, treasurer Uday Kumar Shetty, logistics coordinator Manju, joint secretary Sudhir Appu, advisors, several full committee members and volunteers worked hard for several days with meticulous planning to make it a blockbuster event. Naseem Al Rabeeh supported by being present at the venue throughout the event as first aid partners.

    Congratulation to Tulukoota Qatar for the magnificent show and taking us back home when we are away. Food, games,colours the ambience didn’t allow people to move. The ground was packed.!!Amazing work!!A show which has never happened in Qatar !! Hats off to Tulukoota Qatar.
