Media Release

Mangaluru, Mar 31: The Graduation ceremony of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions was held in the Father Muller Convention Centre on Friday, March 31. The ceremony included the graduation of Father Muller Medical College, Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences, and Father Muller College (Speech and Hearing) in a solemn ceremony. Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of FMCI, welcomed the attendees and introduced the chief guest and guest of honour. He highlighted the ethos of the institutions and wished well for the future of the new graduates.

Dr M K Ramesh, vice chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, was the chief guest of the day. He said that health science courses are some of the toughest courses in India, and only about 20% of students get into higher education in this field. Out of that 8%, around 80,000 students have the chance to become doctors. Father Muller Medical College, which has the highest load of patients and the best faculty, stands tall among many colleges in Mangaluru. Reverence must be paid to Fr Augustus Muller, and the dedication of the management to continue in his footsteps is appreciable. Mangaluru has beauty and culture, which respect each other, and being in Mangaluru is the best thing. Change is the only constant in life, and the momentum to the next phase in life is expected a lot from the new graduates, either higher academics or being a breadwinner.

Datuk Dr Heric Corray, Chief Operating Officer- Sabah Healthcare, Malaysia, was the guest of honour. He stressed that life is a changing set of experiences, and the medical realm is a noble profession. He congratulated the graduates for achieving this milestone with triumph. No one has it all the time, and character of strength is required to focus and be disciplined in life. Patients will put their lives in the hands of the graduates, so maintaining professionalism as a care giver is necessary. Personal data sharing that might risk patient privacy is not allowed.

In his presidential remark, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese and President of FMCI, thanked the parents for supporting their wards and the institutions. He said that the efforts put into education should be put to the use for the good of mankind. Man cannot do it alone but needs wisdom and Providence from God. The teachers and management of FMCI are proud of the graduates today, who have left no stone unturned to provide them with the best in their academic pursuits.

The graduation witnessed by the invited parents and family was organized to perfection by a team of faculty and staff volunteers who helped with the needs and well-being of the attendees. The list of student and faculty achievements was presented by the respective college heads. Dr Antony Sylvan Dsouza, Dean of FMMC; Dr Hilda Dsouza, Principal of FMCOAHS; and Prof Akhilesh PM, Principal of FMC, read the reports of their colleges, respectively. The FMCI instituted President’s Gold Medal was conferred to Dr Niranjan.

The graduates arrived at the venue dressed in their ceremonial gowns, marching to the tunes of the Father Muller School and College Marching Band, which added an auspicious vibe to the event. The institutional anthem was sung after the graduates took their oath, followed by the Indian National Anthem before the recession. Dr Fathima Shifa delivered the graduate response. Fr. Ajith B Menezes, Administrator FMMC and FMCOAHS, gave the vote of thanks. Dr Preetham Tauro (Pediatrician) and Shetty Shraddha (Physiotherapist) compered the event.
