Udupi: Police arrest 6 for extorting money on pretext of exchanging Dirham currency

Udupi, Apr 2: The city police have arrested six individuals who were involved in extorting money by falsely offering to exchange Dirham currency in Brahmavar and Kota police station limits.

The accused have been identified as Mohammed Polash Khan (42) of Delhi, Mohammed Mahthab Bilal Sheikh (43) of Mumbai, Mohammed Firoz (30) of Delhi, Noor Mohammed (36) of Haryana, Meerz Khan (32) of Delhi, and Mohammed Jahangir (60) of Delhi. Cases have also been registered against the accused in Delhi, Davangere, Hassan, Chitradurga, and Chickmagaluru.

The accused had tricked a cab driver and a cloth merchant in Brahmavar and Kota police station limits by promising to exchange their Indian rupees with Dirham currency. They had stolen the cash and replaced it with a packet of soap and cloths, pretending that it was Dirham currency.

Upon arrest, police confiscated 100 Dirham currency notes of 32 numbers, 19 mobile phones, cash worth Rs 6,29,000, three bikes, and 30 sim cards from the accused.
