Mangaluru, Apr 4: Activists of DYFI threw the gates that were installed on the Harekala bridge, with the help of the public, and made the bridge open for traffic movement.
The work of the bridge was completed four months ago and it was said that the bridge will be open to traffic from April 1.
However, due to no order from the small irrigation department and stay order from court, the bridge was not opened to the public.
Though officials had come to the bridge on Monday with ash gourd to open it for commuting, they did not do the same due to election code of conduct. Harekala DYFI unit, which got frustrated over these developments, had submitted an appeal to DC on Monday. On the morning of Tuesday, DYFI activists along with general public, threw the gates that were kept as block to the bridge and made the bridge open for vehicle movement.
