Bangalore: Shock Treatment - Energy Minister Signals Power Tariff Hike

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jun 30: State energy minister, Shobha Karandlaje, said that the government proposes to increase power tariff to pass the burden caused by the rise in the prices of coal at global level, and the commitment to supply free power to farmers. “The price of coal is registering an alarming increase in international market with each passing day. The cost of power production is going up, and demand for power is also escalating,” she explained. The minister gave this information to journalists after inking a pact with National Thermal Power Corporation for supply of 100 mega watts of wind energy.

It may be recalled that the power tariff was hiked recently, even after the people showed lot of resentment against it. This will be another bolt from the blue for the people from the state, whose pockets have already been bombarded with revised prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas and kerosene, apart from bus fare.

The minister revealed that all the electricity supply companies in the state have already approached Karnataka State Electricity Regulatory Commission, with a plea to hike power tariff uniformly by 88 paise per unit. The commission is processing these requests, and the hike might be affected soon, she added.

Shobha blamed the centre for delaying its nod for the state government’s ambitious power projects at Yaramaras, Yadlapur, Chhatisgarh, and Bellary. She said that this delay is contributing to aggravate power woes in the state, and hoped that the power shortage will be a thing of the past once these projects get clearance from the union government.

She also squarely accused the union government of not supplying enough coal to the state. “The central government is meting out step motherly treatment to the state, and our repeated pleas are being overlooked,” Shobha claimed.

    Dear Mr. Sudharsan Shetty, Mangalore,
Your ignorance and naiveness is clearely displayed in your comment. If any person doesn't pay electricity bill, the electricity department will disconnect untill the payment is made and they collect even connection charges also.  To digest the development works what the bjp government has done to the state. Operation Kamala is nothing but corruption. Bjp didn't had mandate of the people later bought mla's through corruption.  Evern after buying MLA'S vote of confidence was won through default.
REddys are looting Karnataka wealth.freequent power cut is only because of accute power shortage in Karnataka.  Now donot say consumption has been increased and due to that power shortage

ONCE AGAIN POWER CUT ON 01.07.2011 AT 11:00 PM TODAY DATED 02.07.2011 AT 09:00 AM POWER CUT TODAY ONCE AGAIN DATED 02.07.2011 AT 09:45 AM POWER CUT.

Mr. Sudharshan you being a bjp supporter cannot digest and be blind withiout electricity.  Even after promisses from the government for 24 hours power during children examiniations we have noticed freequent power cuts.  this bjp government is worth for nothing and it is imminent to topple mr. yeddyurappa government.

Joseph F. Gonsalves, Bannur, Puttur / Mangalore you being a congress supporter will always say that BJP has not done anything for our state, but the people of our state are clever and they know what is right and wrong. The result you clearly know in the recent ZP/TP and recent by poll elections where BJP won the elections in our state. Now i know what comment you are going to give for BJP's victory. The comment will be like BJP won due to money power, distributing liquor and are doing caste politics. If possible try to come out with a new comment ok and keep continuing your comment against BJP. Good luck to you.

Walter, Mangalore do you know that even MMS birth place is part of pakistan now. So how can you support a pakistani becoming PM of our country. Blindly dont comment for the sake of commenting ok.

    Dear mr. Durgadas Suvarna, MLORE/BLORE.

There is very frequent power cut during bjp rule unlike congress tenure.  Secondly, bjp hasn't done anything to the state what was done is only road show that too only in the towns like India shining campaign during the bjp ruled NDA.

Thirdly, it is the congress which invested in power and bjp is only reaping what was sown.
Now power hike is agreed by the bjp supporters and cannot digest petrole hike from the center.
Caste politics was not from congress but from the higher caste Hindus and that is their birth right.
Now donot search alchol content in the curd.

(Perhaps you are unaware of that there is a very small percentage of alchol in the curd also)

    Dear Mr. Praveen Kumar, Mangaluru/Bengaluru,

Bjp is reaping what was sown by congress and do you mean bjp solved power problems immediately. Ridiculous. With electric higher prices buying from other states is possible.

For your information in Mangalore on a particular place, I do not know about other places in Mangalore:
Yesterday midnight two times power cut. (30.06.2011)
Now once again in the daylight power cut. (01.07.2011) 11:30
Is this you mean much better. (Mr. Nagesh Nayak says 24 hour power supply and you do say that much better???
The truth which I have commented is the present situation.
What do you mean much better? Reaping which was sown in good.
Mr. Praveen Kumar, the most corrupt state is Karnataka and not African jungles.
To connect power supply to a newly built house without corruption you will not get power.
If African jungles are supplied power, corruption is not at all required.

    hi Mr Nagesh Nayak

First point to note is that what do u mean by there is no room for reduction in the prices. If people have elected the government ,then its the government's responsibilty to reduce the burden on the common man.Our state is ruled by power hungry BJP(the most corrupt government in Karnataka History).Jai Ho

Secondly if BJP was in power at the center it would have been worse than this my friend.During their 6 years in power at the center they had increased the prices on fuel 17 times.

Thirdly no political party is concerned about the people. They are concerned about filling their own pockets and so is the BJP.

I believe you are facinated by the word ITALIAN. you must visit Italy at least once in your life time.If required all Daiji readers can contribute towards your trip. Now, if you are calling Mrs. Sonia Ghandi a Italian even after she got married to an Indian as per Hindu Tradition and living in India for the last 43 years, then you will agree that the same yeard stick should apply to others as well.

Now, BJP's prime ministerial candidate and the top BJP leader Mr. Lal Krishna Advani was born in Karachi , done his high school from St. Patricks school in Karachi and collecge in Pakistan. He is the top leader to the Party you are devoted to. So shall we call this party Pakistani Led NDA? Does that mean sriman yeddiyurappaji is following a Pakistani led party? And you Mr. Nayak- are you supporting a Pakistani led party.

I am neither a supporter of BJP nor of the Congress (UPA). But let me say this: I spent recently one month in Mangalore (May) during which period I stayed with my relatives at Mangalore, Ganjimata, Venur, Baddyar and Karkal etc. What I observed this time was that there have been far fewer power cuts and interruptions than before, (in fact, very few for a brief period) and I thought the State`s power supply has increased and improved substantially.

In fact I mentioned this fact to my people over there, and by and large, they agreed with me. No, my relatives did not have to use the inverters etc, either, even if they had one. So, I would like to give credit where it`s due.

I also observed that there were hardly any mosquitoes and fly nuisance etc. I wish the State Govt. well in their endeavours to improve the electricity supply position further. Once those new projects which the Government is contemplating are implemented, I hope it will be in a position to bring down the tariffs, or at least contain them to the acceptable level.

I dont hold a brief for any political party but having been out of Bangalore for 1 1/2 years I hv seen improvement in power supply here as well as improved/broadened roads. I remember on Tuesdays in SK distt we used to have no power frm 9:00AM-4:00PM on a regular basis for many years, readers from SK/Mangalore would be in better position to comment on this.

As for raising the price/unit, I dont think we can hv low rates for electricity when cost of evrything else is shooting through the roof. Similarly we can not expect fuel prices to remain low (raised several times by central govt).

And now contributing to price hike for electricity to put blame central government.

Ever since Shobha d supply of uninterrupted power supply since November last- it plays HIDE & SEEK till now.

Raise in power tariff when there is no power at all. When complaints are registered to clear the power outage "it is commented that there are no resources" also the blaming does not seem to stop. State blames the centre and the centre blames the state, both pass on the ball.

Why can't all parties work together for the development of the country and the people living in it. India is a very rich country but is being looted by some of its own people causing poverty inflation unemployment etc. God enlighten the minds of these politicians

HATS OFF TO SHRIMATHI SHOBAKKAJI FOR GIVING 24X7 GOOD QUALITY ELECTRICITY SUPPLY.

ITALIAN LED UPA IS NOT SUPPORTING KARNATAKA BJP GOVERNMENT IN SUPPLY OF COAL, NOT GIVING PERMISSION TO SET UP NEW ELECTRICITY GENERATION PLANT.

BUT SHRIMAAN YEDIYURAPPAJI & BJP TEAM HAS SHOWN COWARD ITALIAN LED UPA THEIR STRENGTH .

ITALIAN LED UPA DID NOT SANCTIONED BLACK CAT COMMANDOES FOR KARANTAKA.

BUT BJP IN KARNATAKA IS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING ITS OWN FLEET OF 300 BLACK CAT COMMANDOES.

ITALIAN LED UPA IS SUPPORTING TO THOSE WHO ARE INDULDGE IN SCAMS, CORRUPTION & ANTI NATIONAL ACTIITIES.
