Scores of faithful observe Maundy Thursday across Mangaluru, Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 6: Christians across Mangaluru and Udupi diocese observed Maundy Thursday to commemorate the institution of the Holy Eucharist by Jesus Christ with church services on April 6 evening.

As per the ritual, the bishop washed the feet of selected people representing all men, women, youth, religious and elders as a message of Christ's humility and service. The ritual was observed in all churches in coastal Karnataka.

Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop, diocese of Mangalore celebrated the Eucharistic celebration at Rosario Cathedral.

Dr Gerald Issac Lobo, bishop, diocese of Udupi celebrated the Eucharistic celebration at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur.

Fr Valerian Mendonca, rector, Milagres Cathedral Fr Joy Andrade, assistant parish priest Fr Denzil Martin of Pilar Fathers Fr Nithesh D'Souza concelebrated.

Bishop Gerald Issac Lobo washed the feets of 12 representatives denoting the act of Jesus Christ.

The faithful attended the Maundy Thursday rituals in strength not only for the evening Mass but even the night vigil services.

Maundy Thursday is followed by Good Friday, the day on which the crucifixion and death of Christ is commemorated.
