Bantwal, Apr 6: A pile of trash located near the roadside at Brahmashree Narayanaguru circle, B C Road, caught fire suddenly on Thursday, April 6.
The resulting smoke filled the atmosphere, causing disruptions in pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
As the railway station, Lions Bhavan, and Riksha Bhavan are located nearby, the fire would have spread to the B C Road market if it had not been contained. Additionally, the municipal council's drinking water pipe runs through the area, adding to the anxiety of local residents.
It is unclear whether the fire was caused by a cigarette or beedi bud that was thrown into the trash pile under the scorching sun at around 2 pm. Local residents attempted to douse the fire, and fire brigades eventually arrived and succeeded in extinguishing it.
Traffic was suspended on Goodinabali road and B C Road for some time. Election officer and project director Abid Gadyal, and Bantwal municipal council chief executive Lena Britto arrived on the scene to assess the situation.
