Udupi: EC's CVigil app to keep hawk eye on code, polling violations

Udupi, April 7: The Election Commission of India (EC) has released the CVigil app to prevent irregularities in the polling process and take swift action within the time time limit against them and also to fulfil its objective of conducting free, fair and transparent elections.

The CVigil app with the facility of auto location allows public to file complaints directly by clearly stating the specific time and place where incidences of irregularities happened.  

Any form of inducing voter to vote for a particular person or party, distribution of money, distribution of gifts and coupons, distribution of liquor, unauthorised posters and banners, display and intimidation of firearms, vandalism of property, religious or communal speeches/messages, within 200m of the polling station can also be reported using the app.

In case of any kind of temptation and intimidation and violations of the model code of conduct during campaigning in the area and during the prohibition period, transportation of voters in vehicles on the polling day, the public can file a complaint directly on the CVigil app.

Public can download CVigil App on Playstore on the Android mobile phone handsets and use it in a easy way and can also submit photos and videos about the illegality. The names of the public making complaints will be kept confidential.

Separate staff members have been assigned in the offices of the Election Officers of all the assembly constituencies of the district including Udupi District Collector's office to handle the complaints registered in the CVigil and they will be working 24/7 in 3 shifts till the end of the polling.

As soon as the complaints are received, they will be investigated and the full details of the case will be given to the team of playing squads operating at the respective venue. Based on this information, the playing squad team personnel who will visit the venue immediately will take necessary action regarding the complaints and they will be fully resolved within a maximum time limit of 100 minutes.

The public can complain about election irregularities not only through the CVigil app but also through the free helpline number 1950 and join hands with the Election Commission to help the authority in conducting free, transparent and fair elections.
