Mangaluru, Apr 9: A woman was cheated of her gold ornaments by a 50-year-old man who promised to help the woman to build a house for her.
On March 26, Athica met a stranger near the Thokkottu railway line who identified himself as Rasheed who was said to be about 50 years of age.

Later on the same day, Rasheed paid a visit to Athica 's house who lived in a rental accommodation. He assured Athica of helping her in finding another suitable and better accommodation for her saying that she was spending a good amount of money to pay the rent for the house that she lived in. He told her to meet him at the Bunder Mosque the next day. He left Athica's place by giving her his mobile numbers.

On March 27 in the afternoon at around 1.45 pm, when Athica visited the Mosque Rasheed took her to a hotel room on Falnir road saying that the Sheikh 's wife would be visiting them there.

He told Athica that the Sheikh's wife will not extend any help to her if she saw Athica wearing gold ornaments. Athica removed the jewellery such as the gold ear stud, ring and bangles and handed it over to Rasheed. He then took Athica to another hotel and made her sit and wait. Rasheed told Athica that he would escort the Sheikh's wife and bring her to the hotel room but he did not return.

Rasheed had made away with gold ornaments worth Rs 2 lacs and cheated Athica who filed a complaint with the police at Mangaluru North station.
